Boilers
Condensing Boilers
Due to this process, a condensing boiler is able to extract more heat from the fuel it uses than a standard efficiency boiler. It also means that less latent heat is lost through the flue gases than in older style boilers.
Boilers
Combi Boilers
A combi boiler is both a high-efficiency water heater and a central heating boiler, combined within one compact unit.
A combi boiler allows hot water to be delivered through your taps or shower at mains pressure on demand as and when you need it, eliminating the need for noisy and costly booster pumps.
A popular benefit of a combi boiler is that all components are within one single unit. No tanks in the loft to maintain or risk freezing, no hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard, saving you space and gaining you extra storage and finally no separate heating pump, motorised valves, cylinder thermostat or wiring centre which over time can fail and be costly to maintain and repair.
Boilers
Regular Boilers
The system most commonly has two water tanks in the loft, a large ‘cold water storage tank’ and a small ‘feed and expansion tank’ or ‘header’ tank.
The system will also incorporate a separate hot water cylinder, a circulating pump and one or more motorised valves.
The cylinder supplies hot water at a much lower pressure than a combi and can sometimes require a booster pump to increase the pressure.
Boilers
System Boilers
Like a combi, they are connected to a sealed high pressure heating system and don’t require a ‘header’ tank. They also contain the heating circulating pump.
Like a regular boiler, they heat your hot water in a separate cylinder.
System boilers are quite often fitted alongside unvented hot water cylinders (Megaflo) in larger properties with multiple bathrooms.
